Toch is het wel grappig. Ik zit nu in Moskou, met in dezelfde kamer nog twee Zwitsers, drie Nederlanders en een Nieuw-Zeelander. Ik chat met de Russische Taya, die momenteel in Canada zit. En ook met mijn zusje Lilian, die in Zweden woont. En mijn vader, die thuis in Roelofarendsveen achter de computer zit. John wijst mij eveneens vanuit Nederland op een NRC-journalist weer hier in Moskou. Christopher, een Canadees met Poolse ouders, zit momenteel in Beijing, waar ik volgende week arriveer. Hij mailt net of we nog afspreken. Ook mail van Shed, een Sierra Leonees die een slaapplaats voor me heeft in Freetown voor over een maand. En ten slotte net ook mail van Sidd, die net als ik naar Canada gaat. Sidd mailt vanuit India.

De wereld is zo plat als een dubbeltje. Globalisering is geweldig. Ik voel me wereldburger. Als ik moet kiezen voor 1 paspoort: Dan wil ik er een (helaas niet bestaande) van de Verenigde Naties. 🙂

It’s funny. I’m in Moscow right now, with two Swiss guys, three Dutch people and a New-Zealander in the same room as I’m in. I am chatting with a Russian friend: Taya. She’s in Canada right now. I’m also chatting with my sister Lilian, who lives in Sweden. And with my father, who is sitting behind his computer at home in Roelofarendsveen, the Netherlands. John is also in Holland, tipping me about contacting a NRC-journalist in Moscow. Christopher, a Canadian with Polish parents, is in Beijing right now, where I will arrive next week. He’s asking me if we’ll be meeting or not. Also an e-mail from Shed, a Sierra Leonese guy who offers me a place to sleep for my visit to Sierra Leone next month. And to finish it off, an e-mail from Sidd, who will be going to Canada just like me. Sidd is e-mailing me from India.

The world is flat. Globalization is great. I am a citizen of the world. If I have to choose for just one passport, I want a (unfortunately non-existent) passport of the United Nations. 🙂
